Two Amsterdam Agreements under progress

March 1, 2022
in Amsterdam Agreements, Best Practices, Featured, News

Following AIWW2021, two new Amsterdam Agreements are currently under progress. One is led by PAC-member Christopher Gasson, a tri-party consisting of Global Water Intelligence, World Waternet and AIWW. Aim: to develop a water related solution to off-set the carbon emissions related to GWI’s Global Water Summit and AIWW.

Regional smart water grids for future-proof water provision

The second one is led by PAC-member Huub Rijnaarts, and is on mitigation shortages in Delta regions making them drought resilient. Huub gives a quick heads’ up about his project, AquaConnect, the follow-up programme for Water Nexus, coordinated by Wageningen University & Research together with AIWW.

“In the battle for water, there’s always competition between drinking water supply, agriculture, nature and industry,” says Rijnaarts, Professor in Environment and Water Technology at Wageningen University & Research. “We were wondering how we can make these sectors less competitive and how science might contribute to this. In other words, can we develop alternative sources of water?”

During a kick-off workshop, the collaborating parties of AquaConnect inventoried the questions and the possibilities. Rijnaarts: “I’m very excited. We have an interesting and inspiring new period ahead of us.”
